Surgery is frequently indicated to remove as much of the glioblastoma as possible. To this end, various technologies are being developed to improve the visualization of cancer cells and to maximize the amount of the tumor that can be safely removed. One example is the use of fluorescence agents to distinguish cancer cells from normal tissue coupled with fluorescence-guided surgery to remove the tumor.
