Nicotine is the primary psychoactive component of tobacco, triggering behavioral responses such as reward and anxiety reduction. Identifying the biochemical mechanisms that underlie nicotine-related behaviors may help us to develop new potential treatments for nicotine dependence or smoking cessation aids.
